New features

by philippe

We added three more layers to the read only version of the editor, these can be used to visualize the spread of BBTV and BXW as well as to show, which variety type of Banana is mainly grown where. The new layers can be accessed through the layer switcher on the left side. Further layers will be added in the future. Which information could be of greatest value to be put in as a new layer first? What do you think?

Switched the Base Layer for the Map

by philippe

Our editing tool now uses Google Maps data as a base layer. We switched from our self compiled background map to Google Maps because

  1. Google Maps loads faster
  2. It has more information
  3. It looks nicer

So what do you think, you agree? Comments welcome.

Gallery and Archive added

by philippe

In order to provide more information on the data that we are collecting and processing, we added a gallery and an archive. The gallery section contains the most recent versions of maps and figures, that were created using the dataset on banana producing areas. If we update maps or figures because of changes in the dataset, the older ones will be moved to the archive and replaced by with the current versions. If you use the dataset to create own maps or figures, you are very welcome to send your maps and work, which will then also be published in the gallery.

First version of our editor now online

by philippe

A first (still very beta) version of our toolset is online now (available on the ‘The editor‘ page). Please keep in mind, that it is still very beta, nevertheless offers almost all functionality. Please use it, test it and leave some feedback. Please don´t be afraid to also edit the data, the dataset is for testing purposes and will be reset when the first productive version goes online. Please tell us (as a comment) what you liked or disliked or where you see potential.
