BOAP presented in Nigeria

by hein on November 26th, 2010

From 22 to 26 November 2010 ‘Research for Development Planning week’ was held for IITA scientists in Ibadan, Nigeria. As a potential tool to capture data on banana production and technologies, the Banana Open Access Platform was presented . Although the  crucial banana production areas layer was not visible (due to technical problems). Some comments:

  1. First page is blog and should be introduction to site and data available as this is the key aspect
  2. A link to Wikipedia banana blog to increase visibility
  3. What is the incentive for anyone to edit the data?
  4. Concerns on data quality and credibility of any edits – how can this be verified?
  5. FAO should manage this site as they are impartial and linked to governments – but then why would the data be improved over what they normally receive?
  6. BOAP should be linked across CGIAR system
